child at the beach

It's time for kids to take a break from the TV and the computer and go back outside!

Chicago Wilderness and its more than 250 member organizations invite you to Leave No Child Inside! Find inspiration in these pages to take your kids outside and skim stones, count butterflies or go fishing. Go outside with them and look, listen, touch, and smell! Let your kids take the lead -- with their natural curiosity, they will quickly find something for the family to explore, in any season, at any time.

You don't have to travel far or know everything about plants and animals to help your children enjoy them; half the fun is asking questions and building a sense of curiosity and wonder together. If you are excited about outdoor play and exploration, your children will be, too!

If you feel that your would benefit from a little initial guidance, come out to one of the June Leave No Child Inside Month events or check out the simple activity suggestions on our Children's Outdoor Bill of Rights page. You can also call your local nature center, park, forest, or conservation district about guided outdoor programs offered nearby. And, if you are an educator or simply interested in helping us to spread the Leave No Child Inside message, check out the free printed materials we make available for distribution to families, groups, or professionals.
